Juneau Community Garden to host 20th annual Harvest Fair this Saturday

As summer comes to an end, it's time to reap in the harvest. And there's a celebration of that harvest this Saturday at the Juneau Community Garden.

John Thedinga from the Juneau Community Garden told us about the event: "Well, Saturday we've got the 20th annual Harvest Fair. And were hoping we're going to have nice weather, like today it's dry. Anyway, it's the 20th, it's a wonderful event that's being growing throughout the years."

A major part of the event is a display of local produce. "Exhibits can be entered starting at 9:30 to 10:30, And it's not only open just for garden members, but it's for people throughout the town, throughout Juneau. And people have stuff they want to enter and just compare it with how other people's things are growing, bring it on out, and it's always fun to see lots of things displayed" said Thedinga.

"And as far as most of the public events, they begin at 11 o'clock. And that's when we've got activities for kids, we've got food served over here in the pavilion. We've got tours of the garden, and so on. We also have music, and one of the highlights at least for the kids is; we've got chicken poop bingo which is held over here in the little meadow area. So that's always a big hit. So that kinda at least sums up the general activities, but if it's anything like the past few years it really gets packed in here, you really do get a crowd, so we hope that continues" ha added.

The Juneau Harvest Fair is free to everyone, with the majority of events starting at 11:00; including a farmers market where you can buy some of Juneau's fresh produce for yourself to enjoy.
