Gastineau Humane Society finds new homes for a lot of dogs Published: 01/12/2012 13:35:00 The Gastineau Humane Society recently had a large influx of dogs needing new homes, and while that places quite a burden on the shelter, it ended up being a success story for them. Samantha Blankenship, the Office Manager at the Shelter, explains: "Usually we only have maybe a handful of dogs, dogs specifically that come into the shelter at one time or another and we had upwards of I think when we began the highest rate we had was 27 dogs come into the shelter that needed new homes. We had a giant litter of 11 puppies, with the 11 puppies from that litter and then we had another mother with another smaller litter we had a lot of puppies so whenever we have puppies, whether it's one or fifteen we always have lots of people come into the shelter that are always interested. We're down now to about 16; we have applications on all but about 3 or 4 of those which means that most of them have found homes. We always have animals that are looking for good permanent homes so that's what we try and do and it's been great that we've been able to have such an outpouring from this community of people who wanted to adopt animals, we think it's great to give an animal a second chance at a good home so it's been a great success , the community has been great, we've been receiving lots of donations of food and we thank the community for that. They've been wonderful with their outpouring of support."
