Operation Christmas Child provides hope to children Published: 11/17/2011 13:40:00 There's a very special project taking place in advance of the holiday season. It's a chance to help a child that may not have a merry Christmas without your help, it's called operation Christmas Child and we spoke with Tom Brice, the Southeast Alaska Area Coordinator, to find out what it's all about. "Operation Christmas Child is a project put on by Samaritan's Purse, which is an international relief organization, meant to go into third world nations, war torn nations, providing food and community assistance. This project, OCC is very focused on children and it's the largest children's focus project through Samaritan's Purse. The idea is to give a kid a little bit of hope in a world where they might not see any. The hope comes through in the form of a shoebox; packed full of candy, toys, toothbrushes, toothpaste; those types of items where the child actually has the ability to recognize that somebody cares for them. Not only that but it's important to put a picture of you and your family, maybe a small letter, something that the child can see that there is a face associated with the gift that they've been given. Another thing people like to pack are plastic Rubbermaid or Tupperware boxes that are roughly the same dimension of a shoebox." That also provides a container that the child can use, but you don't even have to have a box to contribute. Tom added, "If you don't have your own shoeboxes, we have extra go boxes available at the drop off location here at Chapel by the Lake."
