Anna Graceman speaks exclusivly with KATH-TV about her time on America's Got Talent
Published: 09/06/2011 18:15:00
11 year old singer-songwriter Anna Graceman from Juneau has been making waves on America's Got Talent this summer. With dozens of songs released on iTunes, and videos on YouTube dating back many years, she is known by her growing number of fans.

Anna became nationally known in October 2009 when she performed her original "Paradise" on the Ellen Show at the age of 9 after producers saw her videos on YouTube. This year she auditioned for the 6th season of America's Got Talent, and skyrocketed to international fame as she wowed the judges and audience alike with her Audition performance of Alicia Key's "If I Ain't Got You" in Atlanta.

After a slightly uncertain performance of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" in Las Vegas, she took the live stage in Hollywood and advanced by viewer votes to the Semi-Finals with a performance of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".
Last week Anna made it to the Top 10 of the show with her unique rendition of Motley Crew's "Home Sweet Home".

We spoke with Anna last Friday via Satellite from Hollywood. We asked her what the reaction has been like from her friends since she first appeared on the show.

"Well, they're really excited for me and they just give me a lot of support. And I want to thank them for that." Said Anna.

Anna has also made lots of friends at the show. Despite being a competition, the acts spend a lot of time together behind the scenes.

"Well, they're all very very nice, and they're all very supportive, and we're all very supportive of each other, and I'm really glad to have them." She said.
Last Wednesday was a dramatic moment for Anna and her fans as she was on stage with Landau Eugene Murphy Junior facing elimination. After announcing Anna would continue, there was a dramatic break before it was revealed that Landau also made it through to the next round.

Anna commented "I was very very excited when we both made it though. I'm really good friends with Landau and we were just both really excited."

We asked Anna who her favorite act is and who she'd vote for beside herself. "You know, I'm just rooting for everyone. Everyone has such a great talent, and I can't pick just one because they all deserve it." was her answer.

Online social media is a big part of America's Got Talent. Contestants and producers are all blogging at the show's website at NBC.com, and also actively communicating with fans using Facebook and Twitter. We put out a call on our Twitter feed asking fans if they had any questions for Anna. One fan asked if there was an artist she'd like to perform a duet with.

Anna said "I would love to work with Alicia Keys, she is a great singer, artist; she is my idol and I would really like to work with her someday."
Some of the artists Anna covers on the show have also been active online and have been giving her feedback.

"Well, Motley Crue has been Tweeting me, which is really really exciting. And I don't know, it's a great honor that they are responding." Said Anna.

Another fan asked on Twitter how Anna deals with the stress of being on America's Got Talent. She responded: "You know, I don't really concentrate on trying to relax; I just really focus on the performance and just go out there and, you know, try to block out everything and do my best."

Anna chooses music she's comfortable with and knows well to perform on the show: "Well, I really like to focus on my favorite artists and people that I really enjoy listening to, and I hope that the artists that I pick, people enjoy as well."

Anna said she'd love to perform one of her dozens of original songs on the show. While she couldn't give us any details if she would, she did give us some hints about what to expect in her upcoming performance on the Top 10 show. "Well I am definitely going to be singing, and I'm going to be having a lot of fun with it. I'm going to be doing something a little bit different, I can't tell you. But, yep, those are all the little hints." She teased.

Performing live in front of millions of people can be exciting, and nerve racking; But Anna knows she isn't alone on the stage: "I always get a little bit nervous, but nerves are always good; and I just think about all the fans out there, all of Alaska watching and I want to make them proud. So that's what I think about when I go on stage."

Anna also had a message for her fans back home in Alaska: "I just really want to thank all of you for your support, and all of you who have been supporting me even before America's Got Talent. And I just want to thank you so much."

Anna performs again tonight at 8 PM as one of the Top 10 acts on America's Got Talent. The 4 acts that get the most viewer votes will be announced on Wednesday evening at 8 PM and will advance to next week's live Final. Despite the outcome of the show, Anna plans to continue to follow her love for music.

"I'm just going to keep doing what I love to do, which is singing and playing the piano, and I would be really happy if I won, but if I didn't, I would still love my passion for music." Said Anna.
